In the early 19th Century, several godly men decided to return to worship according to the “Bible only”, and to wear the name of “Christian only”, as seen in Acts 11:26. This was called the “Restoration Movement”, and through this work, the Churches of Christ were restored to their original simple plan of worship as seen in the New Testament. These worship practices continue today.
We at the Miles City Church of Christ are simply followers of Christ; imperfect people that have eternal salvation through obedience to a perfect Lord. We recognize that Jesus is the only way to be saved (John 14:6). We are “Christians” only; we belong to Christ and acknowledge Him as the Head of the Church as seen in Colossians 1:18. This means we are called by His name only and seek to follow His will as found in the Scriptures, both in our worship service and in our daily lives.
Each Church of Christ is known as a congregation, and functions independently yet in full fellowship with the others, with Christ as the Head of all. Each congregation is led by elders who are selected according to the qualifications found in I Timothy 3. The Bible is our only authority; there is no national organization or headquarters, yet the church seeks to maintain unity of all believers, just as Jesus prayed for unity in John 17.
Often members of the church are asked how to join the church. The church of Christ does not develop a 'formula' by which members determine one's acceptance into the church. God developed His plan:
*Scriptures are from the New American Standard Bible
Hear - Romans 10:17 - "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ."
Believe - Hebrews 11:6 - "And without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that seek Him."
Repent - Acts 17:30 - "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,"
Confess - Matthew 10:32 - "Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven."
Baptism - Acts 2:38 - "Peter said to them, 'Repent and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
The Lord adds the obedient to His church.
